Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

East Silver Market – Few Figures from the Preselection

The call for entries for the 8th East Silver Market is now closed. An incredible amount of documentary films from all over the Central and Eastern Europe arrived to our office – 667 films from 44 countries were submitted for preselection for the market in total.

Our team of selectors is finishing the selection of films for the 2011 edition of the market. The most submissions came from Poland (177), then Czech Republic (101) and on the third place is Austria (83).

All submitted films are also considered for the 3rd Silver Eye Awards. Every year a collection of 33 documentary films in three categories are nominated for the annual Silver Eye Awards – award designed in order to honour the best documentary films from the region. The nominees, as well as the jury members, will be announced at the end of September.

The regular part of the submissions are films from certain regions recommended by our partners, such as Krakow Film Foundation with selection of new Polish docs, DOK Market (DOK Leipzig) offering the most interesting German docs, or collection of films from Balkan submitted by festivals Beldocs and Sarajevo IFF.

More details about selected films will be published on our website during October. The East Silver Market will be open to industry professionals from October 25th to 30th in Jihlava, every day from 10 AM to 10 PM.
