www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

EAST SILVER DEADLINE APPROACHING

...July 31. East Silver is the first documentary market dedicated exclusively to Central and Eastern Europe. The market aims to provide an annual overview of new documentary films and to establish a comprehensive catalogue and an open video library that can be accessed by a broad community of film professionals - buyers, distributors, sales agents or key international film festivals and journalists. East Silver is jointly organized by the Institute of Documentary Film and the Jihlava IDFF. Deadline for submissions: July 31.

• East Silver Caravan, the travelling part of the project that features a selection of East Silver documentaries at major European festivals and markets.
 

 

AIMS
East Silver's mission is to promote and keep track of East European documentary films, support independent producers and filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe and to create a detailed up-to-date map of documentary filmmaking in the region. The aim is also to mediate film distribution and sales so that the films reach the broadest possible audience. Every year, East Silver receives some 350 submissions from almost 30 countries.

 

DATES
The fourth edition of East Silver will be among the industry events taking place at the 12th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, October 24 - 29, 2008.

 

ORGANIZERS
East Silver is jointly organized by the Institute of Documentary Film (http://www.dokweb.net/en/) and the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (www.dokument-festival.cz).

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
• documentary films (consideration also given to experimental films), produced in Central and Eastern Europe in 2007-2008
• English subtitles
• two stills
• a trailer
• a filled-out online application form, see www.dokument-festival.cz, industry section
• a copy on DVD/VHS, sent along with the application form to: East Silver, Školská 12, Praha 1, before July 30, 2008
• the film must also be available on professional film format, such as 35mm, 16mm, S8mm, Beta SP, Digital BetaCam, DVCam
• Registration is free. All films submitted to East Silver are automatically submitted to the Jihlava IDFF.

12TH JIHLAVA INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL

In its three competition programmes, the Jihlava IDFF offers audiences international, Central European as well as Czech documentary films. The festival's unique atmosphere is highlighted by critical dialogue between filmmakers and the public, in long debates that follow after the screenings. More than 170 screenings of both feature and short documentary films are supplemented by a series of workshops, panels and exhibitions.
