Both documentaries are unique in one way – they reconstruct reality through animation. Crulic – The Path to Beyond follows the case of Crulic, a Romanian citizen who was sentenced to prison in Poland for a crime he didn’t commit. There he started a hunger strike in order to protest against the false charge and injustice.
On the other hand, Chronicle of Oldřich S. is an intimate personal story of Oldřich S. who keeps a diary full of short notes about what everyday events, his friends, his fellow villagers, but reflecting also global events. A specific mixture of those notes, which are reconstructed through animation, offers a new point of view on history and our society. Chronicle of Oldřich S. will be presented for the first time in world premiere.
Apart from the East Silver Caravan films, the festival will also screen El Medico: The Cubaton Story by Daniel Fridell, which was available in the East Silver Market in 2011.

Crulic - The Path to Beyond
Crulic - Drumul spre dincolo , Poland, Romania, 2011, 69 min, 35 mm, DCP, Digi Beta, HD, Animated, Drama doc, Human Rights, Social Issues
The animated documentary feature "Crulic - The Path to Beyond" tells the story of Crulic, a 33-year-old Romanian who died in a Polish prison while on a hunger strike. The story is told from the point of view of Crulic, in the present tense, after his death. A strong visual style, the result of beautifully blending hand-drawn collage, stop-motion and cut-cut animation techniques, create a striking, surprisingly integrated and memorable film.

Mr Sedláček was writing one-sentence entries in his chronicle from 1981 to 2005. The chronicle includes everyday stories of his and his family's life (Today our Gypsy neighbour Gina broke my hand. I was taken to hospital in Mladá Boleslav), the life of the village and its surroundings (A man called Bartoš, 32 years old, killed his wife, 30, today in Příšovice and threw her body into the pond) as well as international events (L.I. Brezhnev died today). The real chronicle has more than two thousand daily notes. The authors picked two hundred and used about eighty of them for the screenplay. These eighty notes provide a concentrated overview of Mr. Sedláček's life and of our society. English voiceover by Jan Triska will be available soon.
