Arsy-Versy in Australia

Short Slovak documentary film Arsy-Versy by Miro Remo still attracts attention of various film festivals. The film will be screened at BigPond Adelaide Film Festival in Australia. Arsy-Versy proved again that it is a real festival hit.

Arsy-Versy seems to follow the story of a ugly duckling when the almost inconspicuous film turned into a Slovak “the next big thing”. As part of the East Silver Caravan, the film was screened at many international film festivals, for example at SXSW – South by Southwest in USA or at HotDocs in Canada, where it won the second award in the short category.

The biennial BigPond Adelaide Film Festival became the largest and most prominent Australian film festival next to the Sydney Film Festival, thanks to the many world premieres of new Australian films that took place there. BigPond not only screens the films, but also helps to develop them thanks to its unique financial support, the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund, which covers feature films and documentaries.

The film is a story of a mother and her son Lubos who lives in a world turned upside-down, or, arsy-versy. Lubos broke free from the world as generally conceived by others to arrive at the supreme human-nature symbiosis; he flew away to a planet purely inhabited by butterflies - intelligent beings. The sole focus of his life energy, enriched by a great deal of empathy, is being channelled into his amateur photography and film making, the climax of his fascination with natural phenomenon being his unique study of bats. By way of communicating with the upside-down creatures he is fascinated with, he attempts to achieve the utmost understanding between man and beast.
