www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Supported by CNC Romania, the TV Channel ARTE/France and by MEDIA - the Continuous Education Programme of the European Union, AW became, in the last five years, a unique training program, offering both a hands-on approach and a continuous tutoring system and managed to double its status as an established production house as well. Our courses are designed for young people with previous film and/or video experience. 16 participants, selected on the basis of a dossier (credentials, demo reels, and recommendations) and divided in four groups, will be guided through each and every step of the documentary production. Established and respected professionals will help the participants translate their own ideas into fresh, ground breaking documentaries.

We will mention a few: Rafi Pitts, Nino Kirtadze, Thierry Garrel, Jennifer Fox, Simon Brook, Alex Szalat, Marijke Rawie, Michal Bregant, Niels Pagh Anderson, John Appel, Martichka Bozhilova and the ones who really put us on the map: Jean Rozat, General Director ARTE/France and André de Margerie, Director of International Affairs ARTE/France.

Adinei Pintilie’s Don’t get me Wrong traveled all over the globe, winning several prestigious awards: Golden Dove, Dok Leipzig 2007, Best Film, Dialektus 2008, Best Woman Director, FICCO 2008; Corina Radu’s Sibiu Stories, The Best Documentary, L’Alternativa Film Festival, Barcelona 2008; Cătalin Mușat’s The Flying Shepherd, Special Mention at the Locarno Film Festival 2009; M.Bauman’s & A.Belc’s Rebel, Rebel, selected at the First Steps,Visions du Réel, Nyon 2009; Ionuţ Piţurescu’s Căutare, The Most Audacious Film, Quinzaines des Realisateurs, Cannes 2010

The proposed module is a 30 minutes documentary film, but open to fiction elements in any way the students choose. You will be assisted in pitching, promoting and distributing the outcoming films, which gives you a triple benefit: learning, doing, and getting exposure.

The €500 fee covers accommodations, breakfast & dinner and production and post production equipment and facilities.
