Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

The Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation empowers documentary filmmaking. We do this by enabling great films with global ambition, by brokering new partnerships and by building new business models for filmmakers to deploy. We deliver these goals thanks to our founding sponsor Channel 4, major sponsor PUMA.Creative and a number of innovative Foundations and organizations in the UK, Europe and US who support our work. *AT WHAT STAGE DO YOU INVEST IN A PROJECT/FILM?* Presently we have two funds available: The main Channel 4 BRITDOC fund - this is a production and completion fund for British and British-based filmmakers. The PUMA.Creative Catalyst is a development fund for filmmakers based anywhere in the world. *WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS/FILMS DO YOU SUPPORT?* Independent, one off films and unique creative developments. *WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AMOUNT GRANTED?* PUMA.Creative Catalyst Award is for 40 projects per year, each receiving €5000. With the main fund, on average, we invest between £10,000 and £30,000 per film. *AVERAGE NUMBER OF TITLES SUPPORTED ANNUALLY:* 40 development awards, 7/8 Main fund grants. *EXAMPLES OF RECENTLY SUPPORTED DOCUMENTARY PROJECTS/FILMS:* PUMA.Creative Catalyst Award - 30 awarded so far: Heralds from a Big World - Tatyana Soboleva Cal Summits - Luis Ilizarbe, Dragonslayer - Tristan Patterson, Armenia Wants A Piece of the North Pole, and the South Pole too - Vardan Hovhannisyan.
