East Silver
East Silver Caravan is a unique tool for supporting the festival distribution of Central and Eastern European documentary films. The region offers many talents that may get unnoticed to the international audience and key industry decision makers. A handpicked selection of some of the most interesting films from the market with high festival potential forms the core of the East Silver Caravan. East Silver Caravan helps filmmakers to access international festivals in form of a submission service, using a wide network of key international film festivals. Each year, a selection of approx. 30 films is submitted to international film festivals for programme preselection. Thanks to a wide and growing network of East Silver partner festivals, the chances of Caravan films to get screened at festivals are increasing (at the moment East Silver Caravan travels to more than 80 international film festivals).
The East Silver Caravan works well not only for films, but also for festival programmers as a tool of reference for East European documentaries, since we can help and recommend films on various topics as well. With recently introduced online videolibrary is even easier to recommend films to festival programmers with interest in Central and East European documentary films.
The East Silver Caravan had several major accomplishments last year. In 2011 the East Silver Caravan records 127 festival releases of included films. As the most successful film of the ES Caravan in 2011 was Pit no. 8 by Marianna Kaat, which was screened at 12 festivals, including Full Frame (USA), where the film received two main awards, or won the Silver Nanook Award at Flahertiana IDFF. Similar successes achieved also Silver Eye Winners from 2010, Family Instinct (Andris Gauja, Latvia, 10 releases) and At the Edge of Russia (Michal Marczak, Poland, 8 releases), who benefits from the East Silver Caravan service during the whole year. Exquisite Czech films are regular part of the ES Caravan, for example documentary film Matchmaking Mayor by Erika Hníková achieved 7 festival releases within the ES Caravan, such as HotDocs, DocAviv, Crossing Europe or BAFICI in Buenos Aires.
