Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

The Intruder

Intruz, Poland, 2006, 24 min, DVD, Environmental
The film "Intruder" lasts 24 minutes with not a single word spoken. It takes place under water, and focuses on fish, presenting us the beauty of their world: the flora and fauna of the coral reef. It also shows the negative effect of man's activity on the natural environment. The film demonstrates that marine life is threatened not only by industry and natural disasters, but also by human interference on a micro scale: it takes just one scuba diver to damage a coral reef, foolishly disturbing the ecosystem. Our film attempts to persuade the viewer to take a stand on this issue. It is an appeal to win public support for the cause of protecting marine life. For the whole duration of the film, we view the inhabitants of the underwater world to the accompaniment of beautiful classical music. The film does not represent any clear-cut genre. It could be placed in a wide spectrum ranging from film impression, paradocumentary to artistic protest song.
