Amari Kris, Hungary, 2006, 38 min, Beta, Anthropology, Social Issues
Amari Kris is a documentary about the traditional way of life in a Hungarian Lovari gipsy community in Békés county. The film orients around the romani kris /gipsy law/, a tradition that is believed to be extinct in present-day Hungary. The community of horse trader Lovari gypsies in Békés county invites the audience to become immersed in their way of thinking and view of the world, as well as to witness some of the gipsy traditions, a very important foundation of which is the romani kris.
