The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.

Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

East Silver 2007

4th EAST SILVER 2007, a unique documentary market featuring 346 documentary films made in the last two years in Central and Eastern Europe. The singular project of EAST SILVER 2007 was part of the 11th Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, which took place October 23 - 28, 2007 in the Czech Republic. The EAST SILVER MARKET was open from Wednesday, October 24 to Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 9am to 10pm.

EAST SILVER serves as annual meeting places for the ever-expanding international documentary community and this aspect is also an essential part of their continued success. Just as cinemas aren’t disappearing with the emergence of DVD and home theaters, East Silver will always be a place where people can meet each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

Together with the East European Forum, which generated a range of great offers for the production and development of new projects by East European filmmakers and producers, both created the industry section of the IDFF Jihlava.

East Silver haa a joint mission to promote outstanding Eastern and Central European documentaries and to improve the conditions under which they are being produced. For this purpose East Silver has created a whole slate of offers for the documentary industry in order to support networking among professionals and new talents, to help promote new creative documentaries and to support the distribution of the best works.

During 2007 the 4th edition of the East Silver Market did its best to fulfill the goal of digitization: 346 hand-picked new documentaries were available with the click of a mouse – no more waiting for tapes, no more problems with DVDs that don’t run; instead, each film will came with email contacts to the producers and distributors and a detailed review.
