www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

What's East Silver?

East Silver presents an opportunity to promote documentaries internationally through the catalogue, video library and specialized on-line database, as well as through the traveling showcase East Silver Caravan, which presents a special selection of the East Silver documentaries at various international festivals and markets.

The goals of the East Silver Market are to find and promote new works in the field of documentary film, and to support independent producers and filmmakers from Central and Eastern European countries. East Silver also creates an easy accessible platform for exchanging professional experiences between film professionals and offers a broad database of documentaries from 2004-2005 intended first of all for the festival programme directors, broadcasters and distributors.

Films submitted to East Silver 2005 and East Silver Caravan

There were about 329 documentaries submitted to the project in 2005. Between the participating countries are i.e. Austria with 55 films, Poland with 40,  Czech Republic with 26, Russia with 23, Hungary with 18, Croatia with 10 documentary films but also several films from Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia etc.

The catalgue included submissions from the numbered of small independent production companies, but also film from big production houses, such as Polish Television, Czech Television, Romanian Television, Croatian Television, Estonian Television, Bulgarian Television, ORF Austrian Broadcasters; film institutes (Estonian Film Foundation, Latvian National Filmcentre) as well as national film schools as FAMU (Film and Television Faculty of Academy of Performing Arts), Kiev National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television.

The East Silver Caravan was successfully presented at several film festivals such as the Canadian Documentary Film Festival Hot Docs, goEAST Film Festival of Eastern European Cinema Wiesbaden, and the Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz. East Silver Caravan travelled also to the Cracow Film Festival and the Hungarian International Film Festival ARIFF in Székesfehérvár.

Who organizes East Silver

East Silver project is realized in co-operation with the Institute of Documentary Film; the market takes place at Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.
